Florian's big band arrangement of his Composition 'Old Soul' was nominated as one of three pieces for the 2011 BMI Charlie Parker Compositione Competition.

An established jazz pianist and composer, Florian Hoefner has toured extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Canada. His performances are featured on seven CD releases, including a collaboration with renowned guitarist, Kurt Rosenwinkel.
He has been heard at major festivals across Europe, such as Jazz Baltica in Salzau, Germany, the Bohemia Jazz Fest in the Czech Republic and the Tremplin Jazz Festival in Avignon, France, where his band Subtone was the recipient of both the jury and audience awards. He shared the stage with the likes of Joe Lovano, Seamus Blake, Rich Perry, John Riley and Tim Ries. He is the leader of his New York-based Florian Hoefner Group that released it debut album “Songs Without Words” on OA2 Records and has since then embarked on a busy touring schedule in Europe and North America.
The German National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra (Switzerland) have both premiered Florian’s compositions, with many more appearing on his recordings. He is a two-time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award and a member of the BMI Jazz Composers’ Workshop hosted by Jim McNeely.
Florian initially began his musical studies in Bavaria, where he played the trumpet and accordion, in addition to piano. After obtaining his first degree as a jazz pianist from the University of Arts in Berlin, he was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to complete a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. There he studied with Jason Moran, Dave Liebman, and Garry Dial.
As a teacher, Florian has been active both as a private instructor and clinician, working for institutions like the University of Toronto, the University of Arts in Berlin, Germany, the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria and the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia.

Florian Höfner gehört zur neuen jungen Generation deutscher Jazzmusiker. Wie viele seiner Kollegen durchlief er das hervorragende deutsche Ausbildungs- und Fördersystem mit einem Studium an der Universität der Künste und als Mitglied im Bundesjazzorchester und ist nun auf dem besten Wege, sich auch international einen Namen als Jazzpianist und Komponist zu machen.
In Deutschland ist er schon lange als Pianist und treibende Kraft hinter der Gruppe Subtone bekannt. Die Band hat 2011 ihre dritte CD „Morningside“ bei ENJA Records veröffentlicht und blickt auf zahlreiche Konzerttourneen in Deutschland, Europa, aber auch Nord- und Südamerika und den Gewinn des internationalen Jazzwettbewerbs „Tremplin Jazz d’Avignon“ zurück.
Seit 2008 pendelt der gebürtige Nürnberger zwischen Deutschland und New York, wo er 2010 seinen Master of Music an der Manhattan School of Music abgeschlossen hat. In der US-Metropole stand er bereits mit Künstlern wie Joe Lovano, Rich Perry, Seamus Blake und John Riley auf der Bühne. 2012 veröffentlichte er seine Debüt-CD als Bandleader mit der “Florian Hoefner Group”. Das Album, das unter dem Titel “Songs Without Words” bei OA2 Records erschien, erhielt umfangreiche Einspielungen bei Radiosendern in Deutschland, den USA und Kanada und lief im Bordprogramm der Lufthansa. Das Quartett absolvierte eine ausgedehnte Release-Tour mit über 30 Terminen in 6 verschiedenen Ländern und wurde für seinen Auftritt in der Zehntscheuer Ravensburg mit dem Oberschwäbischen Kleinkunstpreis 2013 ausgezeichnet.
Als Mitglied der Gruppen Roman Ott Inner Shape und Peter Kronreif Wayfarers war Florian an vielen weiteren CD-Veröffentlichungen beteiligt, darunter eine Produktion mit Kurt Rosenwinkel für Freshsound Records.
Als Komponist konnte er zweimal hintereinander den ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award gewinnen. Als Mitglied des BMI Jazz Composers Workshop unter Jim McNeely wurde er für den Charlie Parker Kompositionspreis nominiert. Seine Bigband-Stücke wurden bisher vom New York Jazz Orchestra, vom Bundesjazzorchester, vom Lucerne Jazz Orchestra und vom DanJam Orchestra aufgeführt.
Seit seiner Kindheit spielt Florian auch Akkordeon und wenn man Glück hat, kann man ihn während der Oktoberfestsaison mit der Polkaband „The Ja Ja Jas“ in einer der New Yorker Beerhalls erleben – in Lederhosen versteht sich natürlich.

Die Band hat 2011 ihre dritte CD „Morningside“ bei ENJA Records veröffentlicht und blickt auf zahlreiche Konzerttourneen in Deutschland, Europa, aber auch Nord- und Südamerika und den Gewinn des internationalen Jazzwettbewerbs „Tremplin Jazz d’Avignon“ zurück.
Seit 2008 pendelt der gebürtige Nürnberger zwischen Deutschland und New York, wo er 2010 seinen Master of Music an der Manhattan School of Music abgeschlossen hat. In der US-Metropole stand er bereits mit Künstlern wie Joe Lovano, Rich Perry, Seamus Blake und John Riley auf der Bühne. 2012 veröffentlichte er seine Debüt-CD als Bandleader mit der “Florian Hoefner Group”. Das Album, das unter dem Titel “Songs Without Words” bei OA2 Records erschien, erhielt umfangreiche Einspielungen bei Radiosendern in Deutschland, den USA und Kanada und lief im Bordprogramm der Lufthansa. Das Quartett absolvierte eine ausgedehnte Release-Tour mit über 30 Terminen in 6 verschiedenen Ländern und wurde für seinen Auftritt in der Zehntscheuer Ravensburg mit dem Oberschwäbischen Kleinkunstpreis 2013 ausgezeichnet.
Als Mitglied der Gruppen Roman Ott Inner Shape und Peter Kronreif Wayfarers war Florian an vielen weiteren CD-Veröffentlichungen beteiligt, darunter eine Produktion mit Kurt Rosenwinkel für Freshsound Records.
Als Komponist konnte er zweimal hintereinander den ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award gewinnen. Als Mitglied des BMI Jazz Composers Workshop unter Jim McNeely wurde er für den Charlie Parker Kompositionspreis nominiert. Seine Bigband-Stücke wurden bisher vom New York Jazz Orchestra, vom Bundesjazzorchester, vom Lucerne Jazz Orchestra und vom DanJam Orchestra aufgeführt.
Seit seiner Kindheit spielt Florian auch Akkordeon und wenn man Glück hat, kann man ihn während der Oktoberfestsaison mit der Polkaband „The Ja Ja Jas“ in einer der New Yorker Beerhalls erleben – in Lederhosen versteht sich natürlich.
